I really think I can do this sugar-free thing! I have been reading through the books I mentioned in yesterday’s post and finding out a lot more about sugar addiction and how to break it. It’s interesting to find out what sugar does to your body, and the benefits of living sugar free. For anyone thinking of giving up sugar I would recommend David Gillespie’s book ‘Sweet Poison..’. Although possibly in paperback rather than Kindle as it’s quite annoying flicking back and forth through the sections. It’s quite funny, factual, and his facts are backed up with references to the studies they are taken from.

I know it’s not going to be easy to break the bad habits I have and stay away from junk food but I figure if I gave up smoking, I can definitely give up sugar. There are comparisons made to quitting nicotine and quitting sugar in a lot of the books and blogs I have looked at, and I feel like this is positive news for me. Granted, I only managed to quit after reading Paul McKenna’s book ‘How to quit smoking’ but there must have been some willpower involved there too, right?

Last night I popped by my local health food shop to get some food for dinner. This was my first chance to see which of my favourite foods were secretly hoarding 50 teaspoons of sugar (I read far too many Daily Mail articles!).

I went home to Cork last weekend for a quick 25 hour trip to see my family and my dog/obsession Dexter. Was so good to see everyone! I barely had enough time to fit everyone in so I need to plan another longer trip home soon! If only Dexter could come to visit…

I still can’t quite believe how much alcohol I managed to fit into those 25 hours…when I got home, it was back to work and back to attempting a healthy diet. For breakfast I had porridge with agave nectar, banana and fruit for breakfast. I’m drinking Dr. Stuart’s ‘slim plus‘ tea which is really just fennel tea but tastes really good. I think you can buy it in most branches of Holland & Barrett.

This weekend was quite a good one! BF’s roommate is away skiing for the week so I’m taking his place in the apartment. On Saturday we decided to head to Oxford Street to do some shopping. I got some Debenhams vouchers from my old team as a leaving gift and I wanted to pick up a smoothie maker. I buy so many Innocent smoothies each week it seems like it would be cheaper to start making my own! Before we headed out for the afternoon I made us some lunch; Amys Kitchen Organic tomato soup with some puy lentils. I found pouches of prepared puy lentils in M&S last week, you just heat them up for 1 minute and they’re ready to eat. Really easy to prepare and they taste delicious.

Had a great day in Milton Keyes visiting BF’s family. Oh my god the kids were so cuttte! I was worried for no reason, Jessica was possibly the cutest baby I have seen.

I had my brunch on the DLR – a smoothie, an Innocent fruit tube and some orange & carrot juice from Waitrose. This was a bit of a strange buy but tasted just like orange juice really!

I felt a little rude taking pictures at the table so there are no pics of dinner. BF’s brother cooked a roast, Bf loved it but roast beef is something I’m not too fond off so I didn’t eat much. Instead I stopped off at M&S in the train station on the way home and loaded up on snacks! Mmm, tortilla chips dipped in hummus!
The Christmas lights are up in Canary Wharf! I love this time of year, this pic is taken just outside my work.

So Pretty!!
We put up the Christmas tree at home this evening. A lovely man in a kilt and Santa hat delivered and put it in the stand while we watched and drank champagne! Not sure exactly what the kilt was for to be honest… I can’t believe this is our second year in the apartment. I am gonna be so sad if I ever have to leave my house!

work was mental this morning so j missed breakfast. At lunch I met BF for the healthiest food I could find. Sea bass with steamed green beans and side salad. I’ve managed to incorporate a lot of fish into my diet since I started this blog and I’m starting to really enjoy it.

Eating a lovely baby tomato, rocket and spinach salad with balsamic glaze now. Yum yum! Balsamic glaze would make anything taste good.

The countdown to Oktoberfest has begun! Just 10 days left until I fly off to Munich with Nikki, Gabbs and Lynn for four days. I am equal amounts excited and unprepared, I have spent most of this morning searching for something to wear. The most authentic dresses are shockingly expensive and the cheapest ones make you look just that, cheap! I found some female lederhosen which I love, and a pretty red & black dirndl on Ebay. I have decided to embark on a pre-holiday detox, as I am on antibiotics for the week I can’t touch alcohol anyway so it shouldn’t be hard. Although I’m not so sure that abstaining from alcohol before a beer festival is the best idea..

For breakfast this morning I ate diced pinapple with vanilla yoghurt.

For lunch I grabbed food from the canteen. Grilled cajun chicken with salad, and tomato and garlic bruschetta. I also snacked on celery and carrot sticks throughout the afternoon. I love eating these at my desk but I doubt my neighbours enjoy the noise of me crunching away all afternoon.

21..Detox

So I didn’t post anything yesterday, I fell off the blogging, meal-eating wagon. I had chocolate, followed by cheese, followed by more chocolate, a small healthy lunch midday which I forgot to photograph..and then chocolate for dinner. Today I NEED fruit ; & veg and green tea. For breakfast, melon and grape fruit salad, Pukka ‘Three Mint’ tea and water. Lots of veggies planned for lunch.
